Room assignments

The villa is spread across two floors. The Lower Level does not have direct access to the pool or beach. On this level there are 3 Queen bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (2 ensuite). Our suggestion is for Ann, Ryan and James to share one bedroom, Charlie and Tom to share the second bedroom, and Caroline to have the third bedroom.

The Upper Level has 4 King bedrooms and 4 bathrooms (3 ensuite). Our suggestion is for the remaining adults to occupy these rooms (Allison/Andrew, Jim, Tom/Susan, Kate/Marty).

Air Transportation

Air service between Providenciales International Airport and the US is provided by a few different airlines. The following table includes a few options that are relevant for our guests.

Ground Transportation

We have two 8-passenger vans rented for the week (drivers: Andrew and Marty). All incoming flights will be met at the airport for transportation to the villa.

Provisions and Meal Preparation

We will be stocking the villa with groceries for breakfast, lunch and snacks for the week. Generally, we will plan to have breakfast and lunch at the villa. See the schedule page for the dinners.

• Do I need a passport to travel to the Turks and Caicos Islands?

  Yes.

• Do I need a visa to travel to the Turks and Caicos Islands?

  No.

• What language is spoken in the Turks and Caicos Islands?

  English is the official language.

• What currency is used in the Turks and Caicos Islands?

  US Dollar.

• What side of the road do vehicles drive on in the Turks and Caicos Islands?

  Drivers drive on the left side of the road.

• Will my phone work down there?

  You will need to get a SIM card for your phone once you are down there. We will be sure that we have access to at least 3 phones (one for each of the two vehicles and one for the villa).

• Are the Turks and Caicos Islands an independent country?

  It's... complicated. The Islands are one of 14 British Overseas Territories. These territories are under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the United Kingdom, but do not form part of the United Kingdom. They are part of the British Empire and have Elizabeth II as head of state.

• Are the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean Sea?

  No. The main island, Providenciales (commonly called Provo), is in the Atlantic Ocean. Geographically it is contiguous to the Bahamas as they are both a part of the Lucayan Archipelago. Although the island is not in the Caribbean Sea, it is a part of what people refer to as the Caribbean region.

• What else can you tell me about the history, geography, and culture of the Turks and Caicos Islands?

The Villa

• Will it be hot in the villa?

  Most rooms in the villa have ceiling fans. If that is not sufficient, the villa is also equipped with air-conditioning. The need for A/C will hopefully be limited. Our lease agreement includes a certain amount of electricity usage, but we will have to pay extra if we go beyond that amount. The A/C should only be used in rooms with closed windows and doors.

• What is our water safety plan?

  The villa is located on Long Bay Beach. The 2.5-mile long white sand beach has the unique feature that the water is between two and four feet deep going out thousands of feet. The water is quite calm, without big waves or strong currents. It is ideal for swimming and paddling. You can get a sense of the calmness in this picture:

  

  Nevertheless, water safety is of course an important factor when staying in an oceanfront villa with a pool. Kids should only go in the ocean and the pool when an adult is present, and adults should use the buddy system. Life preservers should be worn when kayaking, paddleboarding, etc.

  For the particular concern of the swimming pool, we want to encourage a high state of vigilance when it comes to being aware of who is around the pool.

• What will be provided at the villa?

  • ThinkSport reef safe sunscreen
  • Beach Towels
  • Paddleboards
  • Pool toys
  • There may be snorkeling equipment at the villa and it will be provided on the Friday boat trip, but if you have your own you may want to bring it.
  • Washer/dryer (highly recommend using this to avoid overpacking!)

• What is reef safe sunscreen?

  • Reef safe sunscreen avoids use of substances commonly found in sunscreen that may harm the delicate reefs and wildlife that live there. We have switched to using this exclusively and highly recommend using it throughout the trip. Reef safe sunscreen is required for the Friday boat trip.
  • We will be providing ThinkSport 50+ and ThinkSport kids sunscreen for anyone who would like to use it.
  • This sunscreen is effective but since it has higher quantities of zinc a bit of white residue may remain after rubbing it in.
  • We also highly recommend protecting skin and minimizing the need for large quantities of sunscreen by using rashguards or other coverings while out in the sun/water.

Activities

• How will we get around the island?

  We will have two 8-passenger vans for getting around the island. Andrew and Marty are the registered drivers. Taxi service is available, but it is quite expensive.

• How far away is the villa from various places on the island?

  Airport: 25 minutes
  IGA Grocery Store: 12 minutes
  Grace Bay: 10 minutes
  Blue Haven Marina: 15 minutes
  Chalk Sound View: 30 minutes.

• What is there to do down there?

  Some of the activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, swimming, walking, running, golf, tennis, horseback riding, sailing, and fishing. Please see the schedule for reserved activites.

• What about indoor activites or other fun stuff that isn't out in the sun?

  The villa is equipped with a covered deck and patio which makes it an ideal place to read while enjoying the magnificent view yet staying out of the sun. The large living area on the main floor will be perfect for playing board games or watching a movie. Outside of the villa, there are lots of cool dining and shopping options in the Grace Bay neighborhood.

  Providenciales is particulary well-suited for stargazing due to its remoteness and low ambient light levels. The villa has an open-aired terrace on the top floor that will be terrific for viewing the night sky.
